Morgan Creek Trail Phase 3 Information Session

The Town of Chapel Hill is currently working on an expansion of trail and connectivity projects along Morgan Creek, in southern Chapel Hill. Currently the Town operates a 1.6 mile paved trail system (Fan Branch and Morgan Creek Trails). The Fan Branch Trail connects the southern tip of Southern Community Park with the Morgan Creek Trail. The existing Morgan Creek Trail extends from the Merritt’s Pasture to a parking lot just east of Kingswood Apartments.

PUBLIC FORUM SCHEDULED
February 20, 2017
6:00 pm, Room A of the Chapel Hill Public Library

Greenways Director Bill Webster announced this public forum would present preliminary concepts for the three segments of the Morgan Creek Trail project. Staff and the design firm will share current thinking on how to proceed. They will gather input and comments from the public that will be analyzed prior to development of a more detailed plan. This will be a very important meeting that will help set the future direction of these projects.

If you are interested in the Morgan Creek Trail and/or the proposed bridge over Morgan Creek at Ashe Place we encourage you to attend.

Projects will be addressed in the following order:

Morgan Creek Trail East – Merritt’s Pasture to Oteys Road
Morgan Creek Trail West – Parking lot to Carrboro line
Bridge over Morgan Creek at Ashe Place

If you can’t make the meeting please feel free to contact me at bwebster@townofchapelhill.org for more information and to share your thoughts.

Following are materials that will be shared at the meeting. Illustrative Boards

 DRAFT 25% PLANS

You can review 25% completion drawings below. Please note that at the 25% level almost any aspect of the project can change. We are not “locked into” the option presented in the 25% plans. Rather they are intended to allow people to consider what we believe may be options that are balanced from environmental, fiscal, constructability, and user considerations:

25% Plans showing Morgan Creek Trail Eastward from Merritt’s Pasture to Otey’s Drive

25% Plans showing Morgan Creek Trail Westward from the Existing Parking Lot to Carrboro

25% Plans showing the Proposed Bridge at Ashe Place and Arboretum Drive
