Definitions

Greenways: In North Carolina is usually a 10 foot wide bikeway because Towns can obtain funds from the Department of Transportation and the local Planning Organizations to build them according the same rigorous standards used in road construction. “Greenways” are often sited in area that follow sewer lines, neat creeks,  because are located in low areas and form a convenient easement that contains some of our most interesting and rich natural areas full of  vegetation, creeks, and plant and animal life.  It is best for water quality if the paved greenways are located at least 50 feet from both sides of the creek.
