Help Us Protect
Bolin Creek & Bolin Forest

For All of Us

Bolin Creek provides a home for an amazing diversity of creatures, including the rare four toed salamander, both in its waters and in the riparian buffer surrounding it. This stream also feeds into Jordan Lake, which is a water supply for over half a million people! Unfortunately, this wonderful stream is classified as impaired, meaning that it does not pass the standards set by our state for drinkable, fishable waters. Putting a two mile cement bikeway into the riparian buffer will be detrimental to habitat and water quality.

Town Council Favors Bike Path Along Bolin Creek

When the Carrboro Town Council voted for a bikeway in the riparian buffer of Bolin Creek on October 17th, they were unaware of an important document describing numerous regulatory and physical obstacles to this alignment. Since the Town has not addressed these many barriers, we will persist in advocating for the more direct and less costly Seawell School Side Path. Friends of Bolin Creek will continue our efforts to safeguard the "green we've got," e.g. the Carolina North Forest.

Coal Ash Found to be Even More Toxic

The EPA has just issued a new report that coal ash is even more toxic than previously thought. FOBC has sent a letter to the Chapel Hill Town Council asking them to run new risk numbers before considering building government buildings on top of the coal ash dump on MLK Jr. Blvd.
