This Earth Day, let’s celebrate Bolin Forest – a beautiful urban forest that is a substantial part of our community. While the majority of the forest is owned by UNC, Carrboro purchased a small portion known as Adam’s Tract in 2004. Out of the 425-acre forest, only a single portion is privately owned by P.H. Craig.
Bolin Creek runs through the forest, acting as a wildlife corridor that helps maintain water quality and downstream waters. Many animal species rely on the forest and riverbanks to maintain their habitats, and there are several endangered and threatened animal species in Orange County. Bolin Creek is home to the rare four-toed salamander, which is only found in the American Southeast. Bolin Creek feeds into Little Creek, which then flows into Jordan Lake – a drinking water supply for almost half a million people living in Research Triangle Towns.
