In the course of planning Carolina North, the new campus planned on the Horace Williams Airport property, UNC is applying for a 50 year permit from the Corps of Engineers. The Corps has responsibility for changes affecting wetland, streams and rivers.<\/p>\n
The period for public comment ends 5 pm Monday May 9th.\u00a0 Any comments received will be considered by the Corps to determine whether to issue, modify or deny a permit for the proposal. Comments are used to assess impacts on endangered species, historic properties, water quality, and to assess the need for a public hearing. UNC must receive a permit approval before proceeding with construction for Carolina North.<\/p>\n
Friends of Bolin Creek is drafting comments on the application.\u00a0 We are particularly concerned about the location of a water reuse line which crosses Bolin Creek and disturbs the riparian area next to the creek.<\/p>\n
